Eaton 9155 UPS — Service, Battery & Migration Canada

⚠ Discontinued — batteries and service still available

Eaton 9155 —
Service, Battery & Migration Canada

The Eaton 9155 (also sold as Powerware 9155) is a legacy single-phase online double-conversion UPS covering 8 to 30 kVA in tower and rack-mount configurations. Discontinued and replaced by the Eaton 9PX and 9SX, the 9155 remains widely deployed in Canadian hospitals, government buildings, and enterprise server rooms. We provide battery replacement, capacitor service, and migration planning to current-generation platforms.

Eaton Service Canada is an independent service provider — not affiliated with Eaton Corporation®

⚠️ EOSL status: The Eaton 9155 has been discontinued and replaced by the Eaton 9PX (rack) and 9SX (tower). Eaton no longer provides OEM service. Battery modules, fans, and most control boards remain available through independent supply. The 9155’s larger capacities (15–30 kVA) filled a gap between the 9PX (max 11 kVA) and the three-phase 93PM — migration from large 9155 units may require stepping up to three-phase.

What we can still service

🔋 Available Service & Parts

Most 9155 components remain serviceable through our independent supply chain:

  • Battery modules — internal + external cabinet VRLA replacement
  • Cooling fans — standard replacements available
  • Capacitors — DC bus and AC filter capacitor testing and replacement
  • Control boards — limited but still available; sparing recommended
  • Bypass switch — static bypass service and contact replacement

Migration note: The 9155 covered 8–30 kVA single-phase — a range the current 9PX only reaches to 11 kVA. If your 9155 is 15 kVA or above, migration may require stepping up to the three-phase 93PM or configuring parallel 9PX units. We provide a detailed migration assessment for your specific load.

FAQ

Eaton 9155 questions

Is the Eaton 9155 still serviceable?
Yes, with limitations. Batteries, fans, and capacitors are available through our independent supply chain. Control boards are becoming scarce. We service 9155 systems across Canada and provide a written assessment of remaining useful life for your specific unit.
What replaces the Eaton 9155?
For 9155 units up to 11 kVA, the Eaton 9PX (rack) or 9SX (tower) is the direct replacement with better efficiency and ABM battery management. For 9155 units above 11 kVA (15–30 kVA), the Eaton 93PM three-phase modular platform is the migration path. We provide a written comparison for your specific capacity and load requirements.
Is the 9155 the same as the Powerware 9155?
Yes. The Powerware 9155 was rebranded as the Eaton 9155 after Eaton acquired Powerware in 2004. Same product, same parts, same service procedures. If your unit says “Powerware” on the front panel, it’s the same system. We service both identically.
How often should 9155 batteries be replaced?
VRLA batteries in the 9155 last 3–5 years. For external battery cabinets, all strings should be replaced at the same time to maintain balanced impedance. We recommend impedance testing annually starting at year 2 and proactive replacement at 3–4 years for critical loads.
Do you service 9155 systems in hospitals?
Yes. The Eaton 9155 was one of the most common single-phase online UPS platforms in Canadian hospitals during the 2000s and 2010s. Many units remain in service protecting imaging equipment, laboratory instruments, and pharmacy systems. We comply with hospital infection control protocols and coordinate maintenance windows with biomedical engineering departments.
