Eaton 9PX questions
Can I replace the 9PX battery without shutting down my servers?
Yes. Eaton’s 9PX manual says the batteries can be replaced without turning off the UPS or disconnecting the load, and warns not to disconnect them while the UPS is in Battery mode. The swap is not done on bypass: in Bypass mode, Eaton says, the equipment is not protected (see Eaton UPS on bypass: what it means and what to check). The manual asks for qualified service personnel knowledgeable of batteries. This is the key advantage of the 9PX platform over competitors that require a shutdown for battery service.
What is ABM and why does it matter?
ABM is Eaton’s advanced battery management. Eaton’s 9PX manual says it increases battery service life, optimizes recharge time and gives a warning before the end of useful battery life. In the battery settings, the UPS can run in ABM cycling mode or in constant charge mode.
Eaton 9PX vs 9PX G2, what changed?
Eaton’s U.S. end of service life table lists the 9PX 700 VA to 3 kVA in full support since 2016. For the first-generation 9PX 5-6 kVA and 8-11 kVA, it gives the Mature, Retired and End of Service Life phases all from 2025, which means no service or parts from Eaton, and names the 9PX G2 models, in full support from 2025, as their replacement. How many EBMs can I add to the 9PX?
Eaton’s 9PX manual gives extended runtime with up to four Extended Battery Modules (EBMs) per UPS. Runtime depends on the model, the load and the number of EBMs; we calculate it for your load and 9PX model.
Can you service the 9PX in government and hospital facilities?
