A static bypass transfers load around the inverter, while a maintenance-bypass path must also create the isolation needed for service. Equipment record: Eaton 93E 40 kVA, companion identifier Eaton 93PM 50 kW. Decision: Approve service only after the installed 93E or 93PM static bypass, maintenance bypass and isolation boundaries are traced against the 30 kW protected load and upstream source.

Static bypass is not service isolation

Two UPS families can support the same load and still have different switchgear, interlocks and isolation points. The exact single-line diagram and installed labels control the work. A front-panel bypass indication cannot prove that hazardous energy is isolated from the service section.

For Eaton 93E 40 kVA, the applicability boundary is anchored to 40 kVA, 50 kW and part Eaton 93PM 50 kW. The 3 worked inputs remain assumptions until they are recorded at the equipment.

93E and 93PM power-path ratings

The controlling numerical record is: Worked 93E frame: 40 kVA; Worked 93PM frame: 50 kW; Worked 93E voltage class: 208 V; Worked 93PM voltage class: 480 V; Worked protected load: 30 kW; Rectifier, static bypass and maintenance path: 3 power paths; Continuity target: 0 min assumed outage. Each value has a defined source or assumption status in the engineering ledger. Values from different configurations are not combined as though they came from one installed system.

Engineering parameter Value Evidence status
Worked 93E frame 40 kVA Published OEM value
Worked 93PM frame 50 kW Published OEM value
Worked 93E voltage class 208 V Published OEM value
Worked 93PM voltage class 480 V Published OEM value
Worked protected load 30 kW Worked design assumption
Rectifier, static bypass and maintenance path 3 power paths Worked design assumption
Continuity target 0 min assumed outage Worked design assumption

The 93E 40 kVA frame has a 36 kW real-power rating at 0.9 output power factor, so the 30 kW worked load is 83.3 percent of that limit. The same load is 60 percent of the 93PM-50 rating. Actual bypass current, phase balance and overload limits still come from the installed voltage and exact OEM manual.

Thirty kilowatts on each worked frame

The worked check uses worked load fraction = 30 kW / 36 kW for 93E; 30 kW / 50 kW for 93PM. With 30 kW, the 93E 40 kVA/36 kW rating and the 93PM-50 50 kW rating, the result is 83.3% of the 93E real-power rating and 60% of the 93PM-50 rating. The calculation screens capacity; it does not authorize transfer or prove isolation. The arithmetic is reproducible, but it remains a design check until the listed inputs are confirmed at the equipment.

The 83.3% of the 93E real-power rating and 60% of the 93PM-50 rating result follows from worked load fraction = 30 kW / 36 kW for 93E; 30 kW / 50 kW for 93PM. If the 30 kW input changes, this check is repeated rather than carrying the earlier result into a different operating state.

Tracing every energized source

The one-line traces rectifier input, bypass input, battery source, output, neutral and any external maintenance switch. Backfeed and shared upstream sources remain visible after the load transfers.

The proving test records pre-transfer synchronization, transfer result, bypass current, isolation indication, absence-of-voltage method where applicable and controlled return. Stop conditions cover abnormal sound, voltage, current, alarm or interlock behaviour.

Path Technical consequence Disposition
Apply the stated engineering decision Approve service only after the installed 93E or 93PM static bypass, maintenance bypass and isolation boundaries are traced against the 30 kW protected load and upstream source. Selected basis
Generic model substitution Select by family name or rating alone, without confirming the exact configuration. Not selected on the stated evidence
Unverified operating assumption Treat a design assumption as though it were a site measurement. Reconsider only if the input changes

The Eaton 93E 40 kVA decision retains part Eaton 93PM 50 kW, the 83.3% of the 93E real-power rating and 60% of the 93PM-50 rating calculation result and the manufacturer-published 40 kVA point in one equipment record. Applicable OEM instructions, qualified electrical authority and the installed single-line or wiring record remain controlling for any executable work.

Transfer, isolation and return tests

Acceptance of Eaton 93E 40 kVA depends on five recorded checks:

  • Match the installed 93E or 93PM frame and voltage to its manual.
  • Trace all rectifier, bypass, battery, output and neutral paths on the site one-line.
  • Measure 30 kW or replace the worked load with the current site value.
  • Prove the approved transfer and isolation states under qualified authority.
  • Record controlled return, alarms and the final breaker or switch position.

The Eaton 93E 40 kVA record is not accepted if part Eaton 93PM 50 kW does not match, the calculation does not reproduce 83.3% of the 93E real-power rating and 60% of the 93PM-50 rating, or the final operating state is not recorded. The equipment returns to the approved safe state when a check stops, and the unresolved condition remains open without an invented repair result.

Five-step verification sequence for the Eaton 93E 40 kVA engineering decision

Figure 3. Verification sequence for Eaton 93E 40 kVA

No service state without a proven one-line

The 30 kW capacity screen leaves less real-power margin on the 93E than on the 93PM-50, but service remains prohibited until the exact maintenance path creates verified isolation. Static bypass alone is not the service state.

Decision rule: Approve service only after the installed 93E or 93PM static bypass, maintenance bypass and isolation boundaries are traced against the 30 kW protected load and upstream source. A different model, load, voltage, battery string, software version or operating state requires a new check against the applicable manufacturer record.
